ASC

Alumni Schools Committee

The ASC is a network of Yale alumni volunteers that serves as a liaison between the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and local communities. The ASC is an integral part of the admissions process. It is with the help of ASCs around the country and world  that Yale can build the best freshman class possible. It is also one of the most satisfying volunteer opportunities for Elis in the area.

What we do

In the late fall and early winter, ASC members interview applicants to Yale, and write brief reports as part of the admissions process. Typically, the Yale Club of the Suncoast has 20 to 30 applicants and interviews are completed by December for early admission, and by March for regular admissions.

In the spring, the Yale Club of the Suncoast presents Book Awards to selected junior students at most of the area’s high schools.  We also invite accepted students and their families to a club luncheon to meet and welcome them to the local Yale family.  Sometimes students also join club members at the Yale Day of Service event in May.

Other special events such as High School Counselor Breakfast and June Book Awardees’ Reception will be announced as details are arranged.

If you are a graduate of Yale and would like to volunteer to interview prospective high school students, please contact Patrick Whelan.  It is especially useful to have recent graduates of Yale College who can answer student questions about recent college life and extracurricular activities, as much has changed over the past few decades.
